Bowling, bowling, bowling :)

Today was our last day of school before the Christmas holidays. On Monday and Tuesday we had exams, they weren't too bad :)
Then this morning we had a Christmas Party hosted by class Fodla. It was great, so well organised with so much food! Thanks guys! We all got given our kris kindle presents aswell. Normally you always find out who has you for kris kindle but with this one, i still don't even know who had me! But if you're reading this, thank you for the presents! haha :)
After the party we went bowling :D It was such a good end to a great first term!
Thanks to Mrs L and Ms O'C for bringing us :)
The next time I blog it'll be 2012, crazy!

Have a great Christmas :D

Fashion show...

This morning TY's went to the hall for a fashion show. For the past few weeks we've been making outfits in home ec, inspired by so many different things from The Lion King to Cinderella to Katy Perry and so much more. We finally got to see all the outfits today. :)

Every outfit was so good, I wouldn't like to have to choose a winner! Although its been a stressful week trying to get ours finished, my group (Niamh C, Aoife O'N & Rebekah :D) have had so many laughs along the way and we've become so much closer. Even though we didn't make every home ec class as productive as it could have been it all came together in the end.
I thought I'd be delighted when this project was over, but I'm not :( Looking back its been great fun and I can't help but laugh when thinking back on it! :)

In other news, our TY blog came 2nd in the Edublog awards! Successful week overall :)

I Love Mrs L :)

She is fantastic. :-)

Busy, Busy, Busy...

I have a lot going on right now, so much things to do!

At lunch time today, we're having a cake sale to raise money for our mini company. Right now, my locker is full of cakes, buns and sweets. Hopefully its a success and we make some money to help us buy our products, advertise our company and everything else necessary!

Our home ec fashion show is on Thursday. My group were a little behind and we had a lot to do but we are finally nearly finished our 'Black Swan' inspired outfit. Our outfit is kind of inspired by this picture:

This week I also have two presentations to do this week:
Geogrpahy: Our world trip is nearly coming to an end! :( It was a lot of hard work and stressful at times but it was a good project and I learned a lot of interesting things about different countries!
Spanish: We had to do a spanish project on any of the South American countries. I chose Colombia to do because I knew nothing about it. It was strange writing a project all in Spanish but I think it really helped improve my spanish.

Oh and our TY blog WON the Junior Spider award yesterday for Best Project :D Well done everyone!
So things are very busy at the moment - just a normal week in TY. :)

And the nominees are....

We found out the other day, that our TY blog has been nominated for an Edublog award! We're nominated under the 'Best Class Blog' award and we're against people from all over the world. We have to get as much people as possible to vote for us because it'd be great to win. You're able to vote once a day and once from different computers.
As well as that, we're shortlisted for the Junior Spider Awards. We're not able to vote for this one, but our blog is going to be judged.
Fingers crossed we get something because between Mrs. L and everyone in TY, a lot of our time is spent blogging!

By the way, 15 days to Christmas! How exciting :) Christmas is my favourite time of year.
As soon as this ad comes on, I know its Christmas!

Doe a deer, lalalala :)

Our school musical 'The Sound of Music' started on Monday night with the first of four shows. I was selling raffle tickets at it for the first two days so far. The first night went well, with a few microphone problems but Tuesday night was really good :D All the songs are still stuck in my head and everyone did so well.
After all the hard work its turning out to be a really great show, well done everyone!

Opera..5 hours of fun .. or not...

On Tuesday all TY's went into Rathmines to the cinema to see an opera being shown live from New York. It was called Don Giovanni and woah it was long!
It went on for ages with a 15 minute interval which was definatly not long enough! I probably would of been a lot more interested if it was shorter but anyway, it was still an experience!

Work Experience Number 1 :)

Last week, all TY's went on their first week of work experience. I went to the Chemistry department on Maynooth College. My friend Caitriona was doing it aswell so I wasn't really that nervous on the first day because she was going in with me.
On the first morning we met with our suprivisor Ken and another girl from Maynooth PP who was doing work experience. We were told the rules in the labs and given a rough idea of what we were doing.
Last week was Science Week so most of the week we were getting ready for science night that was on friday. We got to set up and do loads of really fun experiments. One was called 'weird custard.' When you put your hand slowly into a basin of custard it went into it and got covered but when you punched the custard it was rock hard! We also got the make different chemicals which was fun because we were given so much more freedom than in school.
We were also sent on a few shopping trips to get so many random items for the experiments. One of this trips included us being reported to the college by a mature student for stealing a trolly !
Overall,  it was a really great week and now I'm almost certain I want to work in something to do with chemistry... :D

Build a Bank :)

So the week before midterm I had an interview in school to be on the build a bank team. Build a Bank is a competition where we have to set up and run a bank in our school and then we go to competitions and compete against other schools.
I applied for the position of auditor and a little while after the interview I found out I got it :) Theres only 6 people on the team so I was really suprised I was chosen! I can't wait to start working on our bank and our team is great. Its going to be a fun few months :D

Work Experience

Next week, all TYs are going on a week of work experience. This was one of the things that convinced me to do TY because everyone always says its one of the highlights of TY.
For my first work experience I am going to the Chemistry Department of Maynooth College. I have an interest in science and I think I want to do something to do with science after school so I thought it'd be good to go here :) We just had a careers class talking about work experience and thats gotten me really excited for it!
On Monday morning I'm sure I will be a bit nervous but really excited too! Its Science Week next week too, so they will be carrying out lots of different and unusual experiments for it.
I'll blog after it and write all about it!

The Sound of St.Wolstans....

A few weeks ago, it was announced that our school are putting on a musical in December, The Sound Of Music! We're really lucky we're in TY the year they decided to do this because it means we can all get involved. I found out today I'm going to be selling raffle tickets at it :) I'm really happy to be involved in this and I'm sure the whole performance will be great in the end. Oh, and well done to Leah for getting the part of Maria, :) doing Banba proud!

The stress of travelling all around the world....

Our geography project is due NEXT WEEK! How quick has the last few weeks gone? It feels like only the other day, we were given this project and we were all so relaxed because it wasn't due for so long. Looking back, maybe we shouldn't of been so relaxed....
We have to put all the information about our 6 countries into one big scrapbook. So far we've put 2 countries into the scrapbook. The next week will be stressful trying to get it done but it'll all work out.
One of the countries we're doing is Cambodia. I found out that in Cambodia it's illegal to use water guns during New Years celebrations...What a weird law..

Blog Action Day - FOOOOD :)

So today is Blog Action Day, a day everyone blogs about one topic. This year the topic is food glorious food :) This worked out well because me, saoirse and brona are doing our young scientists project on the effects of fast food on your concentration, stamina and health so I'll just talk about that. While researching for our project I found an experiment done by an American doctor on the effects of fast food:
She bought a fast food burger and also made a home made burger. She left them both out for 11 days. After the 11 days the home made burger had completely rotted like normal food should. But the fast food burger stayed exactly the same as it had on the day she bought it. The appearance didn't change at all. It got me thinking about what is actually put into fast food and to be honest i don't think I want to know...Heres a picture of the experiment done by the doctor in America:
The burger on the left is the fast food one (unchanged after 11 days) and the one on the right is the home made burger....

Winners :D

So Class Banba won the Fun Walk :D We were sitting in irish when Ms. S announced it and the whole room just erupted and went crazy! We were all so happy that we won, it was great :) Mr. L was delighted aswell and came into us the next day with 'the fruits of victory' as he called it or Roses chocolates to everyone else.

LALALALALALA BANBA :)

8 Deadly Sins...

Yesterday we went to Newbridge for our second mini company workshop with Orla from Enterprise Ireland. We were there with St.Marys school from Naas who had almost the exact same uniform as us which made it hard if you're looking for someone in a room full of girls! For most of the workshop Orla talked about marketing and promotion for our businesses.
Our mini company idea is a nail varnish pen that has a remover on one side and the nail varnish on the other. We decided to call our company 'Indulgence' and our slogan is 'Only a fingertip away.' We are doing 8 different colours for the nail varnish so we are basing it around The 7 Deadly Sins but adding in an extra sin to make it 8 (theres 8 people in our team!) with each colour being a different sin (eg red = lust and green = envy.)
We think we have found someone in poland who will make the product for us so at the moment we're working with Mr.Walsh to get our porduct drawn up on solid works to send to the producer :)

Can we fix it?!

The annual fun walk was on today and it had to be the best one yet!
Class Banba dressed up as builders and we did our dance to bob the builder :) Mr L. dressed up as a school girl in our uniform and was being bullied by Ms. B who was also dressed in the school uniform! So being the mad cool builders we are, we marched in to fix the bullying :) We were the first class in the whole school to do our dance which got everyone excited because by the time we had to dance we were all so hyped up. The dance went really well and even if we don't win we all had such a great time, it was so fun. (especially dressing Mr L up!)
We didn't actually have to do the walk because every year TYs help people cross the roads so we just chilled with Ms Hughes pressing the button on the traffic lights!
Overall it was one of the best days of TY so far and I think everyone in Banba will agree that we have seriously bonded as a class and I cannot wait for the next few months. Heres a few photos of the day:

CAN WE FIX IT? YES WE CAN!

5 things to do this week...

Ok so Ms. L isn't in today but she's left us with the challenge of '5 things I have to do for TY this week.' The week is almost over so I'm going to do it for next week aswell...

1. Perfect our fun walk dance..
The fun walk is tomorrow!! In my last blog post everything was great, we were getting organised but then it turned into one big disaster. We couldn't organise anything but then at the start of this week with the help of Mr.Lawlor we finally decided on our dance. Hopefully we'll have another practise today to perfect it.

2. Finish the music script.
In music we're doing an opera to the movie 'Mean Girls.' I was put on the script commitee with Shannon so we  have to write the script. Its a lot harder than I thought but its fun and a challenge. We're hoping to get it finished after I finish this blog so i better hurry up!

3. Geography project
Our geography project is due in about 3 or 4 weeks so I have to keep working on it. I've completley finished Thailand so hopefully next week I'll be finished Nepal and Cambodia.

4. Home Ec....
We're still working on our outfit in home ec so I have to look around to see if theres any feathers, etc at home that we could use for our outfit. We're basing our outfit on The Black Swan and our colours are black and white. We have the top of the jeans cut to use as a high waisted skirt and next we have to sew our top to shape..

5. Mini company...don't mention it..
Aaah mini company is stressfull stuff!! Our group have our idea but we have to research and try find a company to make our idea. We're making a nail varnish pen that has the nail varnish on one side and remover on the other. I'm the finance manager in the group, lucky me! I have to collect the information from our survey to get the average price people would pay for the pen..

Busy times ahead...yay

Fun Fun Fun....

The funwalk is next friday and we've got our idea and started to learn our dance :) TY's have been given the colour yellow! For the last 3 years my old class never put in much effort and we normally ended up being the laughing stock of our year so it's good to be taking it more serious this year. TY is the year everyone wants to win, including the teachers. Mr Lawlor is really up for it so hopefully we have a chance to win. Fodla are really serious about it and Ms. O' C really wants to win so I think they're probably our main competition but Eriu could come out and suprise us all!
I don't want to give away any details so I'm going to finish off now...
GO BANBA :D

Update.. :)

All the madness of last week is now over! We're back into our normal TY routine and the projects are starting to pile up now.
Our young scientists one page proposal is due next week and we are no where near finished. There's so much more information needed than I thought. The one page proposal is what we're judged on and that decides whether we get into the competition or not.
Mini company is also a lot more stressful than I thought it'd be! We have our idea but now we have to try find out if it can actually be made and if people would buy it. We're going to Naas soon for a talk about mini company so hopefully that will help us, we need it anyway!

Yeah, theres not much more happening right now :)

It's all over :D

We finally got our results yesterday after sitting through 5 classes waiting! :) We all got called down to the hall and had to line up in our old classes which was really weird because I've already gotten so used to Banba. I opened my envelope as soon as I was given it. I was so happy when I saw that sheet of paper :)
I went to the Orchard for lunch after and saw half of our year there! Then it was time to go over to my friends house and start getting ready for Time. We all had a great night and it was really good seeing so many people I knew. Everyone seemed happy with their results which is great :D
After 3 years, the Junior Cert is finally all over! :D

Wednesday, 14 September 2011

It's almost time...

In 2 hours we're getting our Junior Cert results. It's only starting to kick in now that we're actually getting the results. I'm nervous but I'm not that bad! I'm looking forward to tonight because everyone is going to Time in Naas :D haha I just realised the title of this blog makes more sense than i thought. 'Its almost time' haha :L
Its weird to think everything we've been leading up to for the last 3 years is all decided on this piece of paper and then it'll probably be forgotten about!
By tomorrow I am going to be so tired and on thursday night I'm going to get the best sleep ever! This week is crazy.... :D

Carlingford :D

We got home from Carlingford last night and it was definatly the best two days of TY so far :D I somehow managed to get up at 6 on monday morning and we met at esso at 6.45. Even though we were all wrecked on the bus everyone was buzzin with excitement :D As soon as we arrived we were split up into two groups. My group were given super cool army suits and guns! We made our way up the very steep hill (not fun!) and arrived in a forest. We played lasers, which was the funnest thing ever! Running around, aiming and shooting other peoples heads, how could it not be fun? :D
After lunch we had to walk for about 25 minutes to get to a big field to do activities. Nothing could beat the lasers but these were still really fun. My group's instructor was John, who made the activites much better! Most of the time was spent slagging his accent while he laughed at us failing most of the games! The highlight had to be 'Communication Breakdown' which was when we were all put in a dark room with 3 floors and had to make our way out. Before it, I was certain it would be easy and we'd all get out really quick, man was I wrong! After failing to get out after 15 minutes John turned on the lights and he told he was crying with laughter with some of the noises coming from us when we were inside! :L If you complete a task you get 'gems' but because we didnt get out of the room we couldnt get the gems :( But then we convinced John to give us them if we got Leah to sing :D yay :D
In the evening we did 'night line' where we were blindfolded in the forest and had to follow a rope! When we got back we were all chillin' in the common room with the boys school that was there. We had a sing song that was great fun :D
That night we got our rooms, my group of friends got split up which was annoying at first but after that I didnt mind at all because I got on really well with the girls in my room and we had a good bitta' bant before bed :D The next morning we were woken early for breakfast and told our activites for the day. We started the day with rock climbing and abseiling :D They were both really fun once you got into them. Our last thing to do was oreintiring, yeah i've no clue how to spell that but you know what I mean :L This was by far the worst thing we did! Wandering around hills, looking for numbers is alot harder and stressful than it seems. My team got totally lost, ended up in a random field with no paths so we just made our way back down the hills towards the centre :L what a fail. :L
By tuesday night I was so so so tired I could bearly stay awake and I fell asleep on the way home! We had such a great two days that I'm sure no one will forget :D

Thursday, 8 September 2011

Thursday buzz :D

I LOVE Thursdays :D
Today we did even more charleston dancing with Ms. O'R, who seems to get even more into it every week! We got into groups and started to make up our own dance :D The music just puts me in a happy mood or something, its so fun! :D
After we did photography with Rob Love and took some hilarious photos! Then we went to the mall for pilates :) The lady teaching us it is so flexible its kinda scary, we all look like such amateurs compared to her! But its good and challenging :)

Carlingford is 4 days away!!! aahhh so excited :D This is the one thing you always hear the TYs talking about so I've been looking forward to it since I got accepted into TY :) When we come home we get the JC results so next week will be our busiest week yet!

Heres a link to one of the songs we've been practising our dancing to :D TUNEEEE :D

Beginning of TY

We've been in TY for over a week now and I've already gotten pretty used to it. I was put into class Banba which I was really happy about. We all get on really well and I've become closer friends already with people I didnt talk to that much before Ty. :)

We've been given a few projects already such as our geography 'Around the World' trip. We are working in groups of two and we have both been given a budget of €12000 each and we have to visit two developed countries, two developing countries and two underdeveloped countries. We have decided to visit Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Cambodia, India and Nepal. I'm looking forward to doing this project :D
In home ec, we have been given a fashion project. Working in groups of 4 we are all given a plain white tshirt and white jeans. We have to design an outfit that will be modelled by one of our group at a fashion show beofre christmas. The outfit must incorporate the tshirt and trousers but you can also use your own ideas. My group have been given the colours 'Black and White' to base our outfit around.
In science we've been put into our groups for Young Scientists and we've started thinking about our idea. The 1 page proposal form is due in 3 weeks so we have to think fast! :)
Thursdays are the best days because after lunch we don't have any classes. First we do a dance class which is really fun :D then we have a photography class and finally we do pilates :D This turned out to be a lot harder than we all expected!!

On Monday, class Banba had a social development day. At 9 o'clock we went to the library and we met Austin who would be spending the day with us. We sat in a semi circle in order of what day of the month we were born. This way we got to sit beside people we wouldn't normally sit beside. We talked to the person beside us about 3 achievments we've had in our lives, what we hope to be doing in 10 years time and our most embarrassing stories! We then told the rest of the class about our partner.
After break we did a few mini games like optical illusions and things that got us thinking! We split up into groups and we did two debates. One group were debating the pro's and con's of smoking while the other group were debating if students are motivated in school. Everyone got really into the debate which turned out to be really entertaining! :D Later, Austin told us about how there are 4 groups of personality's. There are the hot directors, the entertainers, the mediators and the cool observers. I was put into the medator group :)

Over the next few weeks I'm sure we'll be given many more projects and I look forward to see what lies ahead for TY :)
